        Press Release

Publisher’s Graphics Installs Five New Foliant Laminators from Graphco

        May 30, 2025

Press release submitted on behalf of Graphco

In a major move to enhance speed, reliability, and output, Publisher’s Graphics (PG) has installed five state-of-the-art Foliant laminators across its three production facilities in West Chicago, St. Louis, and Winnipeg. The systems — supplied by Graphco, exclusive North American distributor for Foliant—include a Mercury 530 NG, a Vega 400A, and two high-efficiency Gemini 400 NG-S models.

A family-owned powerhouse in print-on-demand and short-run book manufacturing, PG serves a broad range of clients—from indie authors to global publishers—offering high-quality, professionally bound books with ultra-fast turnaround. For nearly 30 years, the company has built its reputation on technological innovation and flexible, customer-driven solutions.

Lamination is a key step in PG’s production process, adding polish, protection, and shelf appeal to its finished products. But in a world of 48-hour turnarounds, reliability isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
“When we chose Foliant, we needed machines that were rugged, simple, and dependable,” says Nick Lewis, Owner of Publisher’s Graphics. “There’s no room for downtime. Every minute counts, and the Foliants have delivered.”

To keep pace with rising demand, PG installed Foliant Gemini 400 NG-S systems in its Chicago and Winnipeg locations. These semi-automatic laminators are engineered for speed and efficiency, with high-speed bump separators that keep jobs moving smoothly and continuously—ideal for production environments where time is tight and quality can’t slip.

In St. Louis, PG added two more Foliant models: the compact, high-performance Mercury 530 NG, and the fully automated Vega 400A, equipped with a suction-feed automatic feeder for precise, hands-free operation. The Mercury is built for versatility—handling everything from offset to digital jobs, including soft-touch matte finishes—while the Vega delivers high-speed, high-volume throughput with minimal operator intervention.

“We now have Foliant systems running in every plant,” Lewis says. “They’ve been easier to operate, simpler to train on, and more consistent than other laminators we’ve used. In an industry where staff turnover is real, that ease of use makes a big difference.”

The decision to go with Foliant wasn’t just about hardware—it was about long-term partnership. “Our relationship with Graphco goes back years having purchases millions worth of Horizon equipment over the years,” Lewis adds. “When you buy a machine, it’s the support behind it that matters most. Graphco’s service has been rock-solid.”

Chris Manley, President of Graphco, echoes that sentiment: “Publisher’s Graphics has always been ahead of the curve—open to automation, quick to adopt new tools, and focused on performance. We’re proud to support their growth and proud of the results they’re achieving with Foliant.”

With its latest technology upgrades and a clear focus on speed, consistency, and innovation, Publisher’s Graphics is well-positioned to lead the POD and short-run book market—delivering premium quality, fast turnarounds, and unbeatable reliability.

Roland DGA Introduces New TrueVIS XG-640

        May 30, 2025

Press release submitted on behalf of Roland

Roland DGA, Irvine, California, a leading provider of large-format inkjet printers, printer/cutters, and other innovative digital imaging devices, has announced the launch of the new TrueVIS™ Roland DG XG-640 – a 64-inch, professional-level eco-solvent printer/cutter uniquely designed to help busy print operations achieve optimum image quality, productivity, and profitability. Available now through authorized Roland DGA dealers, the XG-640 combines impressive print speeds and precise integrated contour cutting with unrivaled TrueVIS color and detail to deliver high-quality output faster and more cost-effectively than ever before. With output speeds up to two times faster than the leading solvent and latex systems, the XG-640 redefines expectations for performance in its class.

Since pioneering integrated print-and-cut functionality – technology that prints and automatically cuts graphics to any shape in one seamless process – more than 30 years ago, Roland DG has focused on continuous innovation. This commitment to constant improvement has culminated in the development of the new XG-640, which ushers in a whole new era of print/cut versatility, efficiency, and performance.

“The XG-640 is quite simply our fastest, most capable printer/cutter to date,” said Roland DGA Product Manager of Digital Print, Daniel Valade. “Incorporating our very latest digital imaging and cutting advancements, it allows print providers to handle a wide range of applications with unprecedented confidence. In addition to producing output that exceeds customer expectations, the XG-640’s ability to ramp up production while keeping running costs low can help any shop increase its bottom line. It’s an amazing device that pays for itself within a very short time period – everything after that is pure profit.”

For brilliant color and print accuracy, the XG-640 employs newly designed dual staggered printheads that eject finer ink droplets at higher densities. These state-of-the-art printheads, along with new high-speed data control functionality, enable the XG-640 to produce stunning prints at speeds of up to 819 square feet per hour.

The XG-640 takes full advantage of Roland DG’s new GBL-free, wide-gamut TR3 eco-solvent inks, which are available in a choice of configurations up to eight colors (CMYK, Lc, Lm, Or, and Gr). White ink printing is 3 times faster and 1.3 times denser than with the TrueVIS VG3, ensuring excellent opacity for window graphics and base coats.

True Rich Color is a unique print setting that optimizes the potential of the XG-640 to create beautifully realistic graphics that combine vivid colors with neutral grays, smooth gradations, and natural skin tones. Users can now quickly select the ideal color setting, including more vivid color, deeper color, or softer color, depending on the desired graphic results.

The XG-640 boasts additional productivity enhancements for efficient, high-quality output, including automatic media set-up and take-up systems to ensure fast and stable throughput, a 7-inch color LCD touch-screen control panel, automated pinch rollers, perforated sheet cutting, a media gap adjustment function, and self-maintenance features.

“At a typical output volume, many shops see ROI on the XG-640 in less than six months,” Valade added. “That makes this next-generation inkjet a clear investment in long-term profitability.”

A powerful software package is also included with the XG-640. Roland DG’s latest RIP software – VersaWorks® 7 – has greater processing capacity, a more intuitive user interface, and is now compatible with macOS as well as Windows. In addition, the XG-640 comes with access to the expanded cloud-based Roland DG Connect platform, which provides a host of useful tools and resources for users to streamline their workflow, manage print operations, and grow their businesses.

BOBST’s Robotic Solutions Boost End-to-End Efficiency

        May 30, 2025

Press release submitted on behalf of BOBST

Automation has become a central driver for the packaging industry, enabling faster, more reliable, and cost-effective solutions.

Perhaps the perfect example of modern automation is robotics – state-of-the-art technology used in smart ways to improve precision, reduce errors, and enhance productivity.

For BOBST, it has been two years since the company fully entered the world of robotics by acquiring Dücker Robotics, a world leader in the corrugated board sector for robots in loading and palletizing. The acquisition reflected BOBST’s focus on automation as a core pillar of its industry vision to shape the future of the packaging world, alongside connectivity, digitalization and sustainability. Since 2023, robotics has now become an integral part of the company’s corrugated portfolio, boosting end-to-end efficiency for customers.

Now, with a full range of robotic solutions on offer for loading and palletizing on flatbed die-cutters, folder-gluers and flexo folder-gluers, and two years’ experience of cutting-edge robotics under its belt, BOBST is ready to take the next step.

Robotics proves its value for the corrugated board industry

“Our customers in the corrugated industry have appreciated being able to efficiently manage their entire production chain from start to finish with one unique partner,” said Pierre Binggeli, Head of Product Line Folder-gluers & Robotics. “The robotics solutions were one of the final pieces of the puzzle to enable this to become reality, enabling automation of key stages and allowing configuration of complete and seamless production lines.”

BOBST’s industry-leading robotic solutions include BOBST ROBOLOADER and ROBOPALLETIZER, along with robots ensuring the safe transport and accurate labeling of pallets.

BOBST ROBOLOADER automates the transfer of blank piles, eliminating the need for any manual intervention at the feeder. The robot ensures regular and consistent supply to match top machine speeds, enabling optimal production line productivity.

BOBST ROBOPALLETIZER stacks the piles or batches in various patterns, completely automating the palletizing process. These highly versatile robots offer tailor-made solutions according to each customer’s needs, thanks to several gripper types and the option to combine various robots.

BOBST ROBOTOP, WRAPPER and ROBOLABEL secure the load, speed up the secure wrapping process, ensure full protection and correct labelling, guaranteeing that the pallets travel securely to the right destination.

The huge potential of robotics in the future

Momentum is gathering. More and more converters are realizing the potential of robotics beyond simply automating their lines.

BOBST’s robotic solutions enable converters to maximize the potential of their equipment, improving speed and productivity in an ever more demanding market environment. In addition, robots help to minimize waste by adapting specific feeding and palletizing needs which fluidify the production process and preserve the integrity of sheets, blanks and boxes. They also contribute to workplace sustainability by removing a considerable amount of repetitive and strenuous tasks for operators.

“The sustainability benefits of robotics are also a big plus for our customers, who want to keep waste to an absolute minimum and improve workplace conditions,” said Mr. Binggeli. “We foresee a future where robotics are an integral part of all corrugated packaging lines, with fully automated box plants running at maximum capacity with minimum waste and downtime.”

Indeed, the success of integrating robotics into the BOBST corrugated offer has provided a potential roadmap for BOBST in other industry sectors.

It may not be too long before other sectors benefit from BOBST’s robotic solutions, helping customers to meet ever-tightening deadlines and demands for fault-free packaging with minimal waste. Corrugated has shown what’s possible with robotics. Now, let’s see what the future brings.

        About BOBST
We are one of the world’s leading suppliers of substrate processing, printing and converting equipment and services for the label, flexible packaging, folding carton and corrugated industries. Taktiful Launches Game-Changing AI Tool for Digital Print Embellishments

        May 27, 2025

Taktiful Software Solutions, Melbourne, Florida, is proud to announce the official launch of Taktify, the first AI-powered cost estimating and pricing platform built specifically for digital print embellishments. Now available to the public after more than 18 months of beta testing, Taktify empowers commercial printers to quote with confidence, increase margins, and eliminate guesswork from every embellished job.

Taktify will make its live public debut at Amplify 2025, the premier print finishing event taking place June 10–12 in Rosemont, IL. Attendees can experience the software in action at booth #4627, where the Taktiful team will run live demos and real-world estimating scenarios.

Designed as a $250/month cloud-based subscription, Taktify delivers precise cost estimates and intelligent selling price recommendations in just seconds. The software calculates production costs based on materials, labor, embellishment coverage, and machine inputs, then uses AI to recommend selling prices tailored to each job’s location, industry vertical, and application. It’s the first tool of its kind to offer this level of market-driven pricing insight specifically for digital embellishment workflows.

“Pricing has always been one of the biggest pain points in this industry,” said Kevin Abergel, CEO and Founder of Taktiful. “With Taktify, printers don’t need to guess anymore. You get fast, accurate cost estimates and selling price recommendations that reflect what the market will actually bear. It’s like having an AI-powered pricing strategist on your team.”

Compatible at launch with digital embellishment equipment in North America from MGI, Konica Minolta, and Harris & Bruno, Taktify integrates seamlessly into production workflows for foil, varnish, raised UV, and specialty coating applications. Support for other inkjet and toner-based systems is already in development and will be boarding for launch soon.

One of the earliest adopters of the platform was The Kennickell Group, a Georgia-based print company with a long history of innovation. After investing in MGI and Konica Minolta embellishment equipment, Kennickell turned to Taktify to solve their pricing challenge.

“We started by estimating by the seat of our pants,” said Jana Johnson, Vice President of Administration at Kennickell. “We had no idea what to charge for embellishments. But once we started using Taktify, we realized we had been underpricing. The software showed us what was possible – and when we raised prices, customers didn’t push back. They saw the value.”

The Kennickell Group saw immediate benefits: faster turnaround times on estimates, a simplified quoting process, and improved price margins that made embellishment a profitable focus for their sales team. “Our salespeople love selling embellished prints now because they actually make money on it,” Johnson added.

Taktify’s impact has gone beyond just pricing. According to Johnson, the software helped drive a cultural shift at the Kennickell Group. “We’re more confident, more efficient, and better equipped to position ourselves as a high-value print provider. It’s been a game changer for us.”

Digital Embellishment users interested in seeing the software in action or scheduling a live demo can visit www.taktiful.com/taktify or email info@taktiful.com.

“If you’re offering digital foil, texture, or raised print and not using Taktify,” Abergel said, “you’re probably leaving money on the table.”

        May 19, 2025

Press release submitted on behalf of FSEA

Amplify is where print and packaging designers, commercial printers, print finishers, binders, mailers and creatives come together with the equipment and suppliers to those industries. Join us for an immersive three-day experience and gain the inspiration, knowledge and network to amplify your business.

Amplify, the Print Finishing & Embellishment Event, a collaborative venture of WhatTheyThink and the Foil & Specialty Effects Association (FSEA), Topeka, Kansas, will include an exhibition and educational program spotlighting the entire print finishing and embellishment value chain. The three-day experience will take place June 10-12, 2025, in Rosemont (Chicago), IL, at the Rosemont Convention Center.

Amplify Print has announced the latest program and demonstration on the show floor in the Technology Zone. A full program by Breit Technologies will demonstrate its recently redesigned Cast and Cure™ finishing unit retrofitted on the Sakurai MS-80DDS cylinder screen press. The presentation will showcase the use of the unique Cast and Cure process that provides a clear holographic finish, matte and/or textured effects to print through a specialized Cast and Cure™ film material that casts surface effects into UV varnishes and coatings. The “casting” process allows the film material to be reused several times, saving overall material costs. Also, since the film is used just to emboss the surface of the varnish, there is no transfer of material to the substrate. This allows the package’s recyclability to be unaffected by the Cast and Cure™ process. With its small footprint, it can be installed inline with screen printing units, offline coating equipment and offline digital/inkjet UV varnish presses. See this remarkable embellishment process in action on the Technology Zone floor. The Breit Technologies Cast and Cure program and demonstration will take place on June 11th at 1:00 p.m. on the show floor.
“Cast and Cure is a remarkable embellishment technology and provides an eye-catching, clear holographic look to all types of printed materials,” commented FSEA Executive Director Jeff Peterson. “Attendees will not want to miss this special program and demonstration.”

        Early Adoption
Neyenesch Printers, a 125-year-old family-owned and operated printer serving a wide variety of clients in the San Diego, California area, is one of the first to purchase the AccurioJet 30000. A legacy brand with a visionary approach, the company has also acquired Konica Minolta’s AccurioShine 3600 digital embellishment press. A perfect complement to the AccurioJet 30000, the press will allow Neyenesch Printers to bring its spot UV projects in-house and grow their business by offering advanced capabilities.

“Investing in the latest technological advancements is how we continue to grow and evolve. The color and image quality the AccurioJet 30000 provides is impressive, and a very close match to our offset press. This, combined with the high efficiency of the press will increase the speed with which we can complete projects, enabling us to better serve our clients and be more competitive in the market,” said Natalie Neyenesch, Vice President of Operations, Neyenesch Printers. “The customer service we have received during the research and purchasing process has been amazing, and both the Konica Minolta team and their press are already proving to be an incredible asset to our company.”

“The AccurioJet 30000 offers exceptional color stability and a more advanced inkjet printhead inking system design, featuring Konica Minolta’s patented Dot Freeze Technology, plus additional physical CPU space, increasing processing power. Our new inkjet manager will be a gamechanger in the ripping process, offering the ability to free pre-rip days in advance so users are ready to go and can be as productive as possible,” said Bret Riecke, Vice President, Industrial Print Solutions, Konica Minolta. “The platform continues to be good steward of the environment as well, with no VOC’s in the ink, a small footprint and low power consumption. The features of the AccurioJet 30000 will help customers rethink printing possibilities and maximize value by providing a gateway to expanded and improved printing services.
