Most graphic designers do not work exclusively in print. But when a print project comes their way, they are still expected to know what to recommend, what questions to ask, and what is possible. Without current samples or firsthand knowledge of today’s materials and techniques, those decisions become much harder.
That is why PaperSpecs created [unboxed], a live online experience paired with a carefully curated Print Sample Box.
On September 10th, hundreds of designers will open the same box together online. Over three hours, they will explore new papers, print techniques, finishes, and ideas they can bring to future projects.
During [unboxed], attendees will:
Explore the joy of making things together with designer and illustrator Rebecca Sutherland and Jim Sutherland of Studio Sutherl&. Through projects created to delight both the eye and the hand, they will show what can happen when curiosity, play, and collaboration guide the process.
Unbox every piece in the Print Sample Box live and see how paper, ink, finishes, and production choices come together. Along the way, attendees will discover new ideas they can use in future projects and conversations with printers and clients.
Discover seven print design trends worth watching with PaperSpecs founder and trend-watcher Sabine Lenz. She will share the papers, technologies, and finishing techniques shaping print today, then take a closer look at one emerging trend most designers have not encountered yet.
“Designers cannot recommend what they have never seen or touched,” says Sabine Lenz, founder of PaperSpecs. “Seeing a new paper, finish, or print technique firsthand makes the possibilities real. [unboxed] gives designers the knowledge and samples they need to make smarter, more confident print decisions.”
Previous attendees say the shared experience matters as much as the samples.
“The wealth of knowledge these events offer – from what’s out there, to how it’s done, to what it costs – is incredibly valuable. But for me, the greatest benefit is the creative community they build. In an increasingly work-from-home world, these gatherings truly feed my soul.”
